Enrollment Director + HOS = A Critical Relationship

In an era when enrollment challenges won’t let up for many schools, one of the smartest investments any school can make is strengthening the relationship between the Enrollment Director and the Head of School.

Having sat in both seats, here are 6 steps any Enrollment Director can take this year to elevate that partnership:

Meet regularly
The person responsible for 80% of the school’s revenue should have a standing one on one meeting with the CEO. Surprisingly, this isn’t always happening. Ask your HOS to make it standard practice.

Create an agenda
Don’t just meet—prepare. A focused, well-structured, written agenda shows respect for your HOS’s time and positions you as a proactive, strategic leader.

Know your numbers
I mean, really know your numbers. Track and present the same key enrollment indicators at every meeting. Consistency builds clarity, confidence, and momentum.

Be efficient
Your HOS is managing a full plate, much like you. Unless something’s on fire, save it for the next meeting. Fewer emails and one off requests = deeper trust.

Don’t pass the monkey
Lead proactively. Only escalate issues when absolutely necessary. Your HOS will notice—and value—your leadership.

No surprises, ever
Low inquiries? Attrition red flags? Parent friction? Your HOS should hear it from you first, not secondhand.

A strong enrollment strategy starts with a strong enrollment director–HOS relationship. This year, continue to be your best self by making it your priority.
